MEDICAL THERAPY SUGGESTIONS FOR THE LADIES: 

Full medical treatment is directed to avoid further loss and regrow the miniaturized hair if possible.  Treatment must be used 12-24 months to evaluate results and decide on long-term medical therapy.  If you choose not to use medical therapy, you will almost always continue to lose hair.

• Head & Shoulders 2 in 1:  Use three times a week.
• Rogaine 2%: Apply 1 - 1.5cc (10-15 drops) twice daily.  Rogaine 5% Foam can be substituted and is less oily.
• Appearex Tablets (Biotin 2.5 mg).  One tablet daily.
• Aldactone 50mg Tablets (Spironolactone 50mg) twice daily.
• Proscar 5mg tablets (1/2 tablet daily) (Post Menopausal)

Notes:

We also recommend you take a “before” picture to compare your results at 12 months treatment time.  Photos are much better than our memories and photos taken every 3-6 months allow us to evaluate the direction your hair growth pattern is moving.

• Rogaine 2% or 5%: Apply 1 - 1.5cc (10-15 drops) twice daily.  There is now a 5% foam available which is easier to use, less oily and less likely to cause redness or scale
• Propecia 1mg; Take 1 tablet daily
• Appearex Tablets (Biotin 2.5 mg); one daily

INFORMATION REGARDING PROPECIA

-    Approximately 85% of individuals who routinely use Propecia see a stabilization of their hair loss or dramatic slowing of the loss.

-    Upwards of 65% of patients who use this medication see actual increase in hair numbers.  While we typically see a greater response on the crown, it also helps the mid-portion of the scalp and to a lesser degree the frontal region.

-    The vast majority of patients will see an increase in hair weight.  This means more volume of hair even if the actual numbers do not increase.

-    Side effects are rare and there are no reported medication interactions between Propecia and other prescription medications that have been noted.

-    Approximately 1% of men can experience decreased sexual drive

     or impotence.  In most men who experience this side effect,

     it will go away, even if they continue the medication.  The

     side effect always goes away by discontinuing the medication.

-    Pregnant women should not take this medication nor should

     they handle broken tablets. 

-    A man taking this medication poses no risk to a pregnant

     woman in regard to the possible transfer of medication.

-    You do not have to stop this medication if you and your

     partner desire to conceive a child.

-    You need to remind your physicians that you are on this

     medication.  It will lower your PSA (prostate specific

     antigen) value by approximately half.  In order to maintain

     an accurate assessment of the prostate and the possibility of

     detecting early prostate cancer, you need to multiply your

     PSA value times two and then compare it to the referenced

     range.  The current referenced range for PSA score is 0 to 4.

     If multiplying your PSA value while on this medication by

     two results in a PSA score of 4 or less, then you are still

     within the normal referenced range.  However, do not use this

     information for yourself, let your doctor who orders your PSA

     decide whether you do or do not need additional workup

     pending your PSA score.

• Your best results are typically achieved by using both

  Propecia and Rogaine.  In animal studies, when used together,

there appears to be a synergist effect.  They showed approximately 40% more hair weight when compared to the individual results when the drugs were used solo.
